Today we are going to present to you a magnificent natural site in Bulgaria – the Stob Pyramids. Yes, we have pyramids, too. Although ours are sandstone formations, located in the southwestern part of the Rila mountain, not far from the Rila Monastery.
The dimensions of the Stob pyramids vary from 30-40m in width up to 12 m in height. Their forms are also diverse, you can see sharp or needle-shaped pyramids, cone-shaped or with a “stone hat” covered that resembles huge mushrooms. In their base, the pyramids are wide and often fused together.
Some of the picturesque compositions bear different names - the Towers, Samodiv chimneys, the Teeth, the Brothers, the Matchmakers, etc. Most of the pyramids are on the southern slope and are colored from light yellow to dark brown and red. Thus they are extremely beautiful at sunset or in the moonlight.
From the top of the pyramids there is a wonderful view of the entire Rila trough, the river, the approaches to the Rila monastery and the snowy mountain peaks.
