WHERE TO GO SKIING IN BULGARIA?

Winter is already here and with it, the possibilities for ski tourism are opening up.

If you are a passionate skier or winter mountain lover, then we certainly recommend visiting Borovets resort. Not only because it is the oldest resort in Bulgaria, but also because it offers excellent conditions for practising skiing.

It is no coincidence that Prince Ferdinand I built a summer residence "Tsarska Bistrica" and several hunting lodges here in 1896. In those days the name of the resort was Chamkoria, while in 1942 it was renamed Borovets (a literal translation of the Turkish word).

Here are some of the reasons to choose Borovets for your winter vacation:

  1. The climate is mild and with abundant snowfall - what more could a skier ask for than just good powder snow?
  2. Borovets is located at an altitude of 1,300 m above sea level in Rila mountain, and this implies incomparable winter landscapes around. And the presence of pine forests all around brings a festive Christmas spirit to the resort.
  3. The resort is suitable for skiers and snowboarders of all skill levels. The variety of pistes and the availability of ski schools for kids make Borovets a preferred destination for mixed companies or families with children.
  4. Borovets gladly welcomes its young guests with its cosy restaurants, après bars and nightclubs where the fun never stops.
  5. And the opportunity of night riding attracts thousands of skiers and snowboarders to take advantage of the freshly processed snow cover.

And last but not least, Borovets is located about an hour's drive from Sofia - this makes it a suitable destination for a day's skiing, even if you are in Bulgaria on another occasion.

If you want to try several experiences in one day and be accompanied by a local guide, check out our private winter day tour to Borovets.
